J. Cole took fans on a trip down memory lane during his headlining set at Dreamville Festival, recalling a nerve-wracking experience from 2009. As he prepared to record his verse for Jay-Z’s iconic track “A Star Is Born” off The Blueprint 3, Cole was hit with intense pressure when he realized that not only Jay-Z but also Beyoncé were watching him in the studio.
Reflecting on his early days at Roc Nation, Cole shared how he walked into the studio feeling already nervous, but when he saw Beyoncé sitting next to Jay-Z, his nerves hit a whole new level. “I’m already feeling pressure and this n**a wants me on a song. He got fcking Beyonce right next to him. Okay, no problem. I’m built for this,” Cole recalled. Despite the overwhelming moment, he went on to perform his verse with confidence.
This intimate moment highlighted Cole’s growth in the music industry, reminding fans of the incredible journey he’s had since signing with Roc Nation.
In addition to this memorable moment, Cole also gave fans an exciting update on the future of Dreamville Festival. While performing at the festival, he addressed its future, reassuring attendees that the event will return next year, though it might not carry the “Dreamville Festival” name. “This festival will exist,” he clarified. “It might not have the motherfing ‘Dreamville Festival’ name on it, but we will be back with this feel.” Cole emphasized that the festival, which already has an incredible vibe, feels like a “cookout, motherfing family reunion,” filled with love and good energy, ensuring fans that it will continue to thrive in the future.
